Homo Aestheticus is that replacement &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; <em>get it while it\u2019s hot!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Homo Aestheticus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>covers a wide variety of topics of interest to the author, in particular [1] food, [2] popular culture (for some definitions of popular and culture), [3] computers and coding, [4] language(s) and literature, and [5] art and aesthetics.<\/li>\n<li>is written mainly by Steve Krause (aspiring Germanist, occasional German professor and instructor, translator, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>shares a name with <a title=\"Homo Aestheticus\" href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books\/about\/Homo_Aestheticus.html?id=b0BJ0XyqO9IC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Homo Aestheticus: Where Art Comes From and Why <\/em><\/a>by Ellen Dissanayake (U of Washington P, 1995), which I once found used in a thrift store; and is to be contrasted with <em><a title=\"Homo Geographicus\" href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=s0B-QgAACAAJ&amp;dq=homo+geographicus&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=dSOcggrLdg&amp;sig=pjwMTAFbAqjOcfSbhbgL4NMOgqE&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ei=mFUbUJGFCerv0gGMzYCoAg&amp;ved=0CDEQ6AEwAA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homo Geographicus<\/a><\/em> by Robert David Sack (Johns Hopkins UP, 1997), which a friend gave to me soon after her dissertation defense, and <em>Homo Faber<\/em> by Max Frisch (1957), a novel I&#8217;ve twice taught as part of a &#8216;German Literature in Translation&#8217; seminar. Other topics and titles? <em>Homo Ludens<\/em>, <em>Homo Academicus<\/em>, <em>Homo Novus<\/em><em>, Homo Symbolicus<\/em>, and even Nietzsche&#8217;s <em>Ecce Homo<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>is most directly a reference to my work\/research, particularly an interest in 18th-century German philosophical aesthetics.
