I caught the 3 quite by accident; I figured I’d missed it so I started walking, thinking that the 4 would get me there a bit late. As a result I got to the Square quickly, so decided to pay the Madison Public Library a visit. I need a piece of mail with my address on it in order to get a card, but I could do that soon enough, I think. It was my first visit ever to the library; I’ve always relied on Memorial Library.

As for dinner, we met in front of the Orpheum and walked down State Street to Buraka. It wasn’t busy and we got a table that was fine. I was if this was the first time I’ve been there since November. I went for the Coconut Curry Chicken, also quite tasty, and an a bottle of Sprecher Black Bavarian; Richard and Amy had the Capitol Amber. After talking and dinner we moseyed further down State Street and eventually across library mall to Memorial Union. After a walk through the Rathskeller and outside to the terrace we came back inside — there is a great, new photo exhibit along the wall near the Lakefront cafe, replacing the ‘Women’ themed one from before and now focusing on nature photography, including an amazing shot of ice/snow on red crabapples — we found ourselves in line for Babcock Hall ice cream, which we ate in the Lakefront cafe.

After that it was back up State Street. Richard left Madison in 1995 but was here on-and-off since the early 80s. And obviously quite a number of things have changed. Evidently the first Dotty Dumpling’s Dowry was not where the Overture Center is now, but on Regent. It then moved up near State Street, where it remained until 2001, when I saw it right before it was torn down. I have unscanned photos of it, I think, back in Idaho. On the way up State Street we took a detour up Gorham; Richard once lived in the same building I lived in, and in the same room but one floor up. We showed it to Amy, then walked back to State past Four Star. I’d stopped in there earlier in the evening, but had forgotten my 2-for-1 coupon so only browsed.

In any case, as we stood in front of the Children’s Museum the 4 came, so I ran across the rainy road and caught it home. Two fake blonds sat up front and were going to the Essen Haus. The bus was well-occupied but not packed. My neighbor got off at my/our stop. We’ve never spoken, and likely never will, since I’ll move out in a month.

And now for the news/links:

Girl’s feet severed on ride at Six Flags in Kentucky: “A girl’s feet were cut off Thursday when a free-fall thrill ride malfunctioned at the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Amusement Park in Louisville, Kentucky, police said.”

I like to think that STR: The Freedom Blog is a parody of nutjob, wacko, rightwing christian views.
