He walked to town and hasn’t yet taken the bus.

The weather today, though, was amazing and perfect for walking. After writing a little I headed to town this afternoon. I was too late to eat at the Mediterranean Cafe — they close at 4:30 now and both Lynn and I were wondering what’s up with that, for they have the business — so I went to the Union, where I got a rib-eye steak sandwich with some tasty grilled onions. The chocolate milk tap was empty, so after eating my sandwich in the Lakefront Cafe (instead of the Rathskeller) I picked up a pint “chocolate milk chug,” downed it, briefly encountered one of the old “Steves” from Stammtisch, and got some Babcock Hall ice cream.

The chocolate peanut butter ice cream has a label on it saying “contains nuts.” This is annoyingly both redundant yet at the same time incorrect.

The weather was so great that I sat outside for a while, and then went to the library, where I downloaded and read. My internet connection was mediocre. The modem connection now, too, is of mediocre quality, even for a modem …

Anyway, after 7p.m. I headed back to Memorial Union where, at 7:30, I met up with Andrea and we went to the wine cellar for drinks. Lynn eventually joined us with Liz, a conference presenter from the University of Georgia, and who has lived across the south and in Australia, but who is from Mississippi. I have little connection to Mississippi except that my grandfather lived there for a while and the family used to have property there. The four of us enjoyed beers (except Lynn, who decided to be our ‘designated academic’ or ‘virtual designated driver’ or something) and conversation, and shortly after 10 we packed things up; Andrea and Liz are both at the Lowell Center and walked that way together, while Lynn and I caught the 10:20 #4.

At the square a pregnant woman — so she claimed, but she just looked fat, and my comment to Lynn was that she was pregnant from behind (I know, that’s not funny), whereas Lynn just thought perhaps a few months — bitched at the driver for making her run to the bus stop, and then waiting as it was, since he had time there. Well, if she’d been on time in the first place … plus, he had no reason to suspect she was anything more than just fat and slow.

I digress.

Tonight I’m finishing up Nine Inch Nails and will move on to Nirvana. I might make an apple pie for my colleagues and grade some papers.

Much fun.

Today Andrea moved out in the morning, but not before I prepared a batch of buttermilk pancakes, which he enjoyed.
