Nut Shell.

I could write for (or even four) paragraphs on hyphenation rules. But I won’t.

I woke up late, perhaps because I went to bed late after watching up through episode 17 of season 10 of Stargate SG-1 … good stuff, I tell you. For those who haven’t yet watched it I won’t include any spoilers. The Sci-Fi channel is showing the episodes after SkyOne in England/Britain already has … and SkyOne was my source.

I also watched Doctor Who last night, but I mentioned that last night, so why repeat myself?

This afternoon I headed off to Woodman’s by bus to take care of some shopping and I picked up dairy products (milk and cheese), eggs, salad, and a steak, along with a new bag of French roasted coffee for my morning ritual. The Cafe Noir Guatemalan from Steep & Brew is still my favorite dark roast, but I haven’t had it in a while and most French roasts taste great in my French press … which has nothing to do with any sort of “French Theme” going on here. I don’t even really speak French anymore.

Alas.

I took the 2nd volume of Tad Williams’s “Otherland” series with me — I began it years ago, put it aside before I went to Germany, and picked it up, about half-way through, last week. I meant to finish it today. The day is not yet over.

I had to rush from Woodman’s to the bus; the line in front of me in the store was a tad long and involved, but at 12 after the hour on my watch (meaning 10 after, really) I was done and heading for the door. The question was: could I make the bus that departed at 15 after? I decided to chance it; if I couldn’t, I figured I might just go to Popeye’s for artery-clogging chicken and mashed potatoes and biscuits — I love that greasy smell as I walk by — but I thought I had a chance for the bus, so I cut across a lane before the intersection because there was no oncoming traffic and in the other direction cars were stopping for a light so I wove between them and then as I reached the transfer point I saw the #3 close its doors and start to pull away, but my fast walking caught the eye of the driver so he stopped, I got on, thanked him, swiped my card through the reader, and took a seat.

Trip over.

I cooked that steak this evening but either my oven wasn’t hot enough (despite the long pre-heating time) or the thickness of the steak was an issue, but the 2×30 seconds + 2×20 minutes Alton Brown approach was giving me something too close to rare rather than medium rare for my taste, so I sliced things up and did a little more searing to finish off the meat. As it was, it wasn’t a great cut (an annoying piece of connective tissue running through part of the steak), and the cooking and spices only helped.

This evening I called my dad for his birthday (number 66!) and he and my step-mom are getting reading for their fist “European Adventure” — Ireland and Scotland. It’s sort of like my first trip to Europe but without the long stay in London. It would have been amusing to get my dad a DVD of “Eurotrip” for his birthday … he wouldn’t appreciate its trashiness, though. I wouldn’t mind getting it for myself, though … guilty pleasure. Guilty pleasure.

No music consumed today. It’s supposed to snow — perhaps — tomorrow. My dashboard widget has been giving me new long-range (that is, 5-day) forecasts the past few days … no consistency. It’s a wacky “spring.”

I’ll leave you with some nifty art:

My Windows Flew Away by blackonwhite (from Serbia)

Gravity (decent but derivative image)

Mr.Carrot 2 by poisondle (look at his other images … some quality stuff there)

Peter Callesen‘s work — beautiful stuff

Or Nut-shell.
