I had the hardest time finding something I wanted to get … spur of the moment. We had a 2-for-1 coupon, so not getting a 2nd movie seemed like a waste. Eurotrip tempted me. “Higher quality” comedies tempted me. Dramas and horror … all tempting, but no title stuck out. Jenny recommended a handful of things, but I’d seen most, or planned on watching them later but they didn’t seem appealing just then, and just then was the important point because I needed to watch the movie before I left for N.Y.

So Clerks II it was, and with a bottle of Rex Goliath zin it was a perfect movie … lots of bad jokes in the sense of dirty or vulgar humor … the sort of thing I watch too little of these days.

And the interesting thing is that Rosario Dawson is Starbuck’s (Katie Sackhoff’s) darker skinned twin … watch Battlestar Galactica and Clerks II, and you’ll see the resemblance. It’s the jaw, but also and especially the eyes and cheeks. Plus Rosario’s hair in Clerks II … but it’s the face. And I don’t find Starbuck’s/Sackhoff’s face that attractive or appealing. The jaw is too strong and protruding (though it’s not a Jay Leno chin at least). Not so much “too masculine” as just too. But mellowed slightly and morphed by way of a darker skin tone to Dawson’s and it works. The resemblance is uncanny.

And it was likewise amusing or uncanny how little the actors seemed to have aged. I noticed it finally toward the end in the jail scene with Randall. His chin looked fleshier; he seemed like someone wearing makeup to look younger. His age was barely hidden. And suddenly Dante looked like that hair was a shot or two away from receding. But Jason Mews? (“Jay”) — perhaps it’s because he’d been in so many Kevin Smith films since Clerks, but he just looked like the same ol’ Jay (and Smith as well, though when one compares Silent Bob with Kevin Smith as “director” on the DVD … the difference is apparent).

I missed Clerks II when it hit the theaters because I was in Berlin and couldn’t be bothered to find a showing. All in all, though, it was a worthy sequel, especially the kind that’s better with booze. The jokes are just that much funnier that way. What was perhaps a bit sad is that while Ben Affleck was just some random guy, as he is in all the movies (except for Clerks, I guess), Jason Lee had always been one of two guys, but here he was someone else, and it would have been nice for him to reprise one of his other characters I felt. Still, “Pickle F*cker” had his moments.

I thought I’d lost my checkbook and looked forever until I found it in the red Colonial Management folder where I must have stuck it last month. I’m sending a rent check off early since I’ll be out of the state for two weeks or more.

I went to pack my backpack only to find … well, not to find, for I don’t have my backpack. I think I left it in Idaho. In September I came out here with my laptop bag and two suitcases. I just recalled this tonight … and after I checked some old photos from September. So, I decided to use my two laptop cases, the larger, older one to hold clothes, the smaller one for the laptop. Assuming Jyoti has laundry in the building or nearby I can get by with about ten days of underwear, several t-shirts, two pair of pants, some socks, and a few button-down shirts. I’ll just do laundry 2-3 times. As it is I don’t have enough clean clothes not to do laundry at least once (though I do have enough underwear, in case anyone cares). Thus I should be able to travel with one “carry on” and one laptop or “personal item.”

I still need to reflect as to whether I’m forgetting anything. Later in the morning I’ll have to call a taxi company.

The end … next post: New York.

Last night I got around to watching Clerks II, which I rented when I went with Jen and Jenny to 4-Star Thursday night.
