Thursday Around Town

This afternoon Ms. S. came home, slightly ‘down’ from her workout, and asked whether I wished to accompany her to a couple stores in search of a DVD or two. Of course I said yes.

Our trip, however, was not a success … neither store carried what she wanted.

This is a blessing in some regards, as it means: money not spent (= money ‘saved’).

We wandered a while around Academy, where Ms. S. looked at, among other things, running and fitness shoes. So many colors, so many patterns (fabric and soles); “back in my day …” I almost feel like complaining. We also spent a few minutes around the treadmills, ellipticals and so on … in a way I want one. ‘Matching’ would be nice … place them behind the sofa and we could walk or jog or whatever while taking in episodes of ‘The X-Files.’

It’s also a waste of money, as one can just as easily go out for a walk or jog, etc. But then I also have fond memories of ‘Operation Get Ripped’ with Jack & Claire several years ago.

Culinary aside: a pouch of sardines (this time in hot sauce) added to caramelized onions and collard greens? Rather delicious (if you like that sort of thing, which I’ve come to).

Note Number 2: I’m still fascinated by how well just a splash (say, 10g) of maple syrup serves to boost various treats … a bowl of oats, a cup of steamed milk. It’s not too sweet, but it brightens and warms at once.

Tonight we took in the latest episode of ‘Top Chef’ (after a season 1 episode of ‘The X-Files,’ “Gender Bender” … which introduces us to Nicholas Lea as ‘Michael’ … he’ll return later as Krycek … but that’s much later), and oh did the sh*t hit the fan, so to speak. Tom seemed grumpy from the beginning (even before trying any of the Elimination Challenge food). I’ve come to appreciate good grits during my time in this part of the country … and Josh served some sad, sad grits this episode.

While Ms. S. napped I caught up on ‘Last Chance Kitchen.’ Then I got my steamed milk … and now it’s time to catch up on ‘The Big Bang Theory.’
