Wine of the night: Pepperwood Grove pinot noir. It seems that it, like Smoking Loon (which produces a tasty, inexpensive syrah/shiraz), is owned/made/marketed by Don Sebastiani & Sons. From the “winemaker comments” on my bottle we have:
Our Pinot Noir from Southern France has notes of strawberry, plums, and clove with subtle currant and earth undertones. We fashioned the blend with a good balance of fuity flavors, integrated crisp acids and notes of French terrior.
The “serving suggestions” on their website state:
Our Vin de Pays d’Oc French Pinot has a lot of depth and earthy tones and will pair better with rich dishes with heavy sauces. Try this with Veal Marsala with goat cheese scalloped potatoes, pot roast with root vegetables and mashers with a rich gravy, or wild mushroom stuffed pheasant with a currant reduction and wild rice.
I’m sorry, but I didn’t have any veal or goat cheese or potatoes or pot roast tonight. No rich gravy or mushrooms or pheasant or even wild rice. Sorry. The wine still tasted good, though. I’ve had their Zin as well, but prefer the Giant 47 Pound Rooster (from Rex Goliath).
Appetite for ethanol spurs food price inflation by Barrie McKenna at globeandmail.com (whatever that means …)
Today’s lowest gas prices in the region (according to the 10pm news): $2.75/gallon.
This evening I caught Stargate SG-1, season 10 episode 18, which deals with Vala’s father showing up and with General Landry — seeing how estranged Vala and her father are — attempting to bridge the gaps in his own relationships. I won’t say anymore so as not to spoil anything for American viewers who haven’t yet seen the episode.
Thereafter followed Lost at 9pm, and we got a Juliet-centered episode that, like the episode a couple weeks back with our criminal pair, cast prior events in a slightly different light. And then the last few minutes of flashback at the very end. Hrm …
… the “teaser” for the upcoming weeks was uninformative, but it set a new low; it ‘borrowed’ the “theme” from Requiem for a Dream, a popular, dark tune, that also showed up in one of the official trailers for Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. But I’ve heard it too much in recent years, so using it here on/for Lost is a cop-out of sorts, a sign of waning creativity.
I caught another album of PJ Harvey — nice enough, but not “distinctive” so far as far as “female voalists” go … there’s nothing, so far, that makes me think, “Hey, this is PJ Harvey!”
I also caught a couple comic books (Ultimate Fantastic Four, Ultimate Spider-Man, Omega Flight, and a Civil War tie-in dealing with Captain America’s death) this afternoon at Fair Trade, and then I read a little Tad Williams. Friday I should go see Grindhouse.

Subject: Upcoming State-Wide Tornado Drill
Date: April 11, 2007 2:24:28 PM CDTAs part of the Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin, the
annual Dane County Tornado Drill will take place during the afternoon of
Thursday, April 12, 2007.Prior to tomorrow’s drill, please take time to familiarize yourself with
the location of tornado shelter areas within your facility. This
information can be found on evacuation route maps posted in your building
(shaded in green). If your facility does not have a designated shelter
area, proceed to a parking ramp, basement or interior hallways. If you have access to a NOAA/weather radio, please take it with you to your
tornado shelter location and stay tuned for the all clear. Facility
Managers and/or Directors should make tornado warning drill announcements
over their P.A. systems (if available). The all clear should also be
announced over the P.A. systems.Common tornado or other severe weather alert systems include outdoor
tornado sirens, NOAA weather radio, facility public address, and various
local media announcements.
I have a simple solution: I’m not going in tomorrow. Tornado drill avoided.
And, to conclude … every pop song gets whored out for TV commercials. Last week I heard Falco’s classic, Der Kommissar, used for a car ad, and just a minute ago, Young Folks by Peter, Bjorn and John, which I first heard a few weeks ago due to Angela and Tyler … I guess it was very popular last summer or so in clubs. If you don’t know it, go get it on YouTube.
