New York: Day 9

When I awoke in the morning the rain was still coming down, harder than it had Sunday — and it continued to do so well into the afternoon. My original idea had been to go to museums, but then I remember — “Monday, duh … museums are closed!”

New York: Day 8

This was a day of relaxation, of culture consumption, of some writing and a little reading and more writing.

Back from Boston, I went to bed late, and so awoke early enough (Jyoti getting up early, Cindy and her mother getting up early, though I haven’t seen Cindy since that first night) but went back to sleep until I felt it was time to role out of bed, 7 hours of sleep later.

Boston: Day 2 / New York: Day 7

Before midnight: The Cleveland Cavaliers defeat and eliminate the Detroit Pistons to win the NBA Eastern Conference — they’ll face the San Antonio Spurs come Thursday from what I understand.

This morning I awoke a bit late in Boston in Richard and Amy’s house, showered, and as I got dressed I tore a whole in the right leg of my black pants. Richard patched it up for me, but I still need to buy some new trousers.

New York: Day 6 / Boston: Day 1

I awoke at 4:30, roused myself from bed, showered, made sure all was packed, left before 5:30 or there about, and took the 1 south toward Canal Street, at which point I got off and walked east on Canal until I reached the Fung Wah Bus company and purchased a $15 ticket for the 6:30 bus.

New York: Day 5

I sit here, about 9pm Eastern time, caring not so much about NY right now but thinking more about what to do in Boston.

People talk about your eyes being bigger than your stomach; as a kid that was only rarely a problem, for I had a big stomach. And a fast metabolism. I rarely bit off more than I could chew, literally and figuratively. These days, when it comes to food, it is a different matter, but not so much because of getting full, but because I don’t need all those calories. This is just a digression.

New York: Day 4

Another day of keeping things short; it was a one-trick-pony sort of day, and that’s okay.

I got up later than expected, though the TV went off at 7 as it’s done since I’ve been here. As if it has an alarm — if only mine at home had that, I’d use it as an alarm. But Jyoti substantiated that it does so … so I’m not crazy for *thinking* I’m awaking at that hour and seeing PBS kids’ shows.

New York: Day 3

The day started slow, which was perhaps not a bad idea after Monday’s extensive and exhausting walk, and so I awoke late, showered, ate, drank water, and stuck around after Jyoti left to meet Zeke for an afternoon chat or talk or drinks. Non-alcoholic, of course. Date two. Jyoti forwarded Ana’s email to me and mine to her, but we didn’t correspond, and so after chatting with Andrew I went out on the town on my own.

New York: Day 2

Just giving these diary entries sequential titles makes it all easier.

Today didn’t seem easier. I brought clothes for “mild” weather and for dressing relatively “nicely,” but it’s been quite warm (mid-high 80s) and so black pants and a black shirt … well … not “cool.” Today Jyoti and I left late morning, walked toward East Harlem but turned south at Central Park and walked through the park until we existed at the south end and on the east side at 5th Avenue. Alone the way we walked along bikers and joggers and skaters; we walked around part of the big lake in the middle and I got some near-panoramic shots of the skyline; we went up to the little “castle” near the (Shakespeare) stage; we saw the Alice ind Wonderland statue; and we walked past/through the zoo area, stopping first, at noon, to see the clock-carousel.

New York: Day 1

I don’t count Saturday as day one because I got here in the evening. That “story” is not very interesting and not that complicated, but the experience was, still, a bit trying.

Off soon to N.Y.

Last night I got around to watching Clerks II, which I rented when I went with Jen and Jenny to 4-Star Thursday night. I had the hardest time finding something I wanted to get … spur of the moment. We had a 2-for-1 coupon, so not getting a 2nd movie seemed like a waste. Eurotrip tempted me. “Higher quality” comedies tempted me. Dramas and horror … all tempting, but no title stuck out. Jenny recommended a handful of things, but I’d seen most, or planned on watching them later but they didn’t seem appealing just then, and just then was the important point because I needed to watch the movie before I left for N.Y.
