Today was about teaching, about not being too snarky with my slacker students, about not losing my temper because there is no real respect in that classroom.
… who missed MILC and/or the post-conference party last night, for both were wonderfully entertaining.
My alarm went off on time, but my speakers … ah, my speakers.
Last night after I returned from drinks with Andrea, Lynn, and Liz at the wine cellar, as I told Lynn I would when we got off the bus, I decided to use up my space apples in an apple pie.
I launched iTunes and started Nirvana … still going now. 7+ hours, I believe, but only about 4 left. At the wine cellar I heard Neil Diamond in the background.
Today Andrea moved out in the morning, but not before I prepared a batch of buttermilk pancakes, which he enjoyed. He walked to town and hasn’t yet taken the bus.
In the morning I got up about 7, before Andrea, and I left at 7:50 to catch the 38, taking a blackberry pie with me — perhaps the best crust I’ve ever made. I used some of the non-hydrogynated shortening last night because I was out of the trans-fat-free Crisco, or close thereto. The crust was flakey, nicely browned, light … and tasty. Damned good.
Today was a day to finish the laundry I started on Saturday, when I only had enough quarters for one load. Today I took a fiver with me and, armed with 20 additional quarters, I did one large(r) load and third minutes of drying, which was exactly enough. I took Donna Tartt’s The Secret History with me, and I still have about 500 pages to go.
Monday in review — I didn’t go to bed, so that I could grad papers. I got a lot done but not everything. I put oats, milk, sugar, and other tasty things in the Crock Pot and set it overnight so that I had some of the tastiest oatmeal ever in the morning.
Music: I finished “M” today with some Muzikas, but now I’m on “N,” and after some Natalie Merchant and Nazareth (won’t be listening to that again any time soon!) I’m on Neil Diamond. What I thought was lots and lots of Neil Diamond, but is, actually, only about two and a half hours. Then I realized that part of that is due to the fact that the soundtrack for The Jazz Singer is not in the Neil Diamond directory but the separate Soundtracks hierarchy.
More Bread:
I used Angelas recipe again (1.5 packages of yeast, tablespoon each of salt and sugar, 2 cups of water, and 5-6 cups of flour) to make a couple more loaves of bread, and ooh — the taste, the texture, the smell of fresh, hot bread.
I cut off a slick slice and spread some peanut butter and honey on it.
