Friday, but not freaky

Today’s heat made me stay inside, want to stay inside, but the funny thing is, it was nicer outside, despite the heat. For outside there was air movement, if perhaps still no real breeze. While inside I have no AC, no fan, just a sauna.

In the evening I took a trip to the co-op for get some milk, eggs, and cheese. Omelets will follow for breakfast. I stopped by Star Liquor and got a 4-pack of Sprech Black Bavarian — I hadn’t had any, or any beer, in quite a while.

I’m still in the early part of The Egyptologist and should return to it. Instead I watched up to episode 14 of season 1 of Charmed. Before my trip to NY I’d seen one episode of the show, probably from season 6 or there about. In NY I saw a couple more, but all from around the same time. Prue was gone; Paige was in. Andy & Co were long dead; Leo was an Avatar. That sort of thing. So I decided to start at the beginning and got the first 14 episodes before I ran out of hard drive space.

Over at Salon.com there is an interesting article, “My hapless African rebel,” worth reading if only because it’s by a college classmate, Nick Wadhams.

Over at YouTube.com I came across the 70-minute (or so) movie Four-Eyed Monsters. Getting it over dialup is a pain, to say the least. It looks both interesting and sappy — but it’s free!

In less positive news, Antioch College in Ohio (a somewhat non-traditional sort of place) is closing due to lack of money. Their endowment is at or below $30 million — in the 90s the College of Idaho faced a similar fate but was saved by an influx of cash by Joe Albertson; now it’s Albertson College of Idaho.

Stargate SG1 is coming to a conclusion soon enough; I’ve already seen it, but I know it’s showing in the US. Over at SciFi.com they’re advertising Blood and Chocolate, a werewolf picture that received decent reviews, stars Agnes Bruckner, and was directed by Katja von Garnier (“Abgeschminkt” — one of my favorite, short, trashy videos). The only drawback, really, is the part that says “From the producers of Underworld and The Covenant.”

My favorite theater is still The Orpheum, which has “28 Weeks Later” tomorrow at 2 and at 9:15pm. The earlier is better in some regards, but the latter means I could be downtown for a midnight Rocky Horror showing.

Ah, the temptation.
