If they had opposable thumbs, we’d be doomed …

We have two cats, A & E. After Ms. S.’s cat B went missing, August of 2011, we held off a bit, hoping he would return, mourning, and so on; but then Ms. S. really felt like the apartment needed a feline manager, and from the Humane Society we got A. Her previous caretakers had named her “Bella”; we could not let this stand. She was still a pretty small kitten, having been born at the beginning of June.

Oct. 2: Whole-Grain Twosday …

I need to go to the store later and get some more oats, my recent breakfast and snack of choice (just soaked in a little milk with nuts and berries, and served cold? Maybe a splash of maple syrup? Kind of addictive) Today, a little fall-like and mellow, seems like a good day for a couple servings of whole grains as well.

Mondays are also beginnings

At least when they fall on the first of the month.

What to do on a Monday on the first of the month? Pay bills. Take measurements.

Saturday Roundup: Waffles, TV, and Technology

It’s Saturday afternoon, heading toward evening, and outside it’s been a gray, gray sort of day, but one that refuses to rain or blow wind. We might go shopping: we have no tempeh in the fridge.

A Friday Roundup

It’s an NPR sort of Friday. Ms. S. tells me that her morning commute is often defined by what’s on NPR; I, on the other hand, get it mainly through their website. Years ago in Madison I used that 3-CD-changer, AM/FM radio, 2-cassette-deck bookshelf system, which eventually found its way to the Madison hostel and never back to me, to listen to local commercial radio in the morning, and then to either of the public radio stations.

It’s 2012 … perhaps I should do the whole “internet radio” thing. Quotes necessary.

Bookends and Book Notes

Neither the potato-lentil “creme” nor the pizza mentioned yesterday were made. Ms. S. returned home at the expected time and we got a little television in before bed. Schedules can be busy, packed, hectic, and disjointed. They skew; they do not always align. And so you make the most of it.

I think the pizza and potato-lentil concoction are for Friday, perhaps Saturday; Thursday is another day during which our meals do not exactly align.

Wonky Wednesdays

Wednesdays Ms. S. works what are for her ‘weird’ hours, 4-11pm. She gets lunch in the afternoon but needs a real ‘dinner’ when she gets home; she’ll be up for many more hours, so it’s not as if she’ll get home, eat a big meal, and then sleep on it. I like go go out of my way to make a varied but not too heavy late dinner on Wednesdays. Usually I come up with it after she goes to work, so I shouldn’t be surprised that I do not yet know what I’m going to cook.

But I wish I had some ideas.

The Mid-Morning Quesadilla

Last summer we moved across a state from Ms. S’s school location to her hometown and my place of employment. She brought the furniture, I brought the mojo, and together we filled in the blanks. About that time we were watching ‘Mad Men’ (the first time for me, the second or third for her), and so in honor of Pete, we got a Chip-n-Dip.

We just love hearing Pete say it: “A Chip-n-Dip!”

And Ms. S. also found us a festive quesadilla maker.
